My
APHA Plus
The "Wow!" factor is high for APHA's new subscription-based Web portal
"Information is a source of learning. But unless it is organized, processed, and
available to the right people in a format for decision making, it is a burden,
not a benefit."
This quote by C. William Pollard, chairman of the $3 billion ServiceMaster
Company, with more than 6 million customers in 31 countries, is an apt
description of the premise for APHA's newest member benefit-My APHA Plus.
Web-savvy APHA members have made good use of APHA Online-the on-line connection
to the association's vast database-since its inception in 2000. My APHA Plus
takes that access to a new level.
The Next Level
In its constant drive to deliver useful, easy-to-use services to members, APHA
has created a new Web-based tool that will make you wonder how you ever lived
without it.
A new level of information access is available by subscription. It is called My
APHA Plus. Think of it as your own personal Web portal to APHA's extensive
storehouse of information. My APHA Plus will supply the information currently
available to My APHA subscribers, but the material will be organized and
processed in a totally new way and will require much less effort to access.
Wow! Number One
To see a pedigree for each of your horses via My APHA, you must either select
each horse from the immense list of registered horses, or search by horse
registration number or name. The information is there, but the search process
is tedious and must be repeated for each horse.
With My APHA Plus, when you log in with your password the welcome page you see
first contains your current membership information, the status of current
subscriptions to the Paint Horse Journal and Paint Racing News, as well as your
contact information.
If any of your contact information is outdated, you can easily edit it from the
welcome page.
A row of menus at the top of the welcome page will take you deeper into the APHA
database. One of the most useful destinations is "My Barns," which includes a
list of all the horses you currently own, with an extensive amount of
information on each, including name, foaling year, color, pattern, sex and
performance points. One click of the mouse displays the same information for
all horses you previously owned.
The summary section of the master profile does the task of collating for you,
offering total horses owned under your member number, and breakdowns by sex,
pattern, color and points.
Each horse's name is a clickable link, which brings additional information on
the specific horse, including the registration photo, if available. A simple
menu bar allows you to switch the display to your choice of information,
including biography, pedigree, progeny, performance records, awards and titles,
ownership history and siblings, with a single mouse click.
Another MY APHA Plus innovation is the ability to print a frame-worthy,
full-color four-generation pedigree that fits perfectly on a single
letter-sized page. A registration photo of the foal, dam and sire will be
displayed if the photos are in the system.
From the welcome page, a single click can also take you to another key feature
of My APHA Plus called "My Show Records." On the first level is a list of all
horses registered under your APHA ID number that have show records. Clicking on
each horse's name will present enhanced performance records neatly organized on
a single screen.
Every competitor who has scored points on the horse is listed, with lifetime
points broken down in easy-to-read columns by halter, performance and racing,
and then totaled. Year-to-date points, arranged in similar columns, are
displayed on the same section of the page.
Each rider's name is also a clickable link that displays more detailed
information about his or her show record, including a lifetime summary.
My APHA Plus is designed to put virtually any information you desire no more
than a few mouse clicks away.
Wow! Number Two
Another new feature offered by My APHA Plus is the ability to display the
records of horses that you don't own. Want to follow the careers of your
stallion's first foal crop or that special baby you sold? Need to keep tabs on
the point accumulations of your closest rival in a tight year-end race?
My APHA Plus makes it a snap to keep track of a "herd" of horses personally
selected by you, by creating a "virtual barn." You can easily locate a horse by
name or registration number, then "bookmark" that horse and place access to his
records into the virtual barn, only a single click away from the master profile
page. There your virtual herd remains, with every bit of information on them
within easy access, until you decide to remove them.
Wow! Number Three
Another innovative feature of My APHA Plus is the ability to customize your own
contact information. By default, the personal data displayed in the ownership
records of any horse is limited to name and mailing address only. But if you
are a breeder or trainer and you want potential customers to have access to
more contact information about you, it is a simple process to edit your
personal profile and specify the contact data you wish to be displayed.
If you are planning a move or discover outdated information in your profile, you
can easily make the update on-line without having to contact APHA by phone.
Keep in mind that the display of ownership records is a feature of My APHA Plus
only, so the only people who can see your contact information are others who
subscribe to the service.
Wow! with Color
Another cool feature of My APHA Plus is the Color Calculator Based on genetics
probability tables developed by Dr. Ed North, associate professor at the
University of Mississippi, this interactive application allows you to see coat
color probability in several ways.
You can select a foal color and the Color Calculator will show you what the
colors of the parents should be to result in the highest probability of having
the foal come out dressed in the color you are expecting. Or, you can select
either parent's color and then see what the color of the other parent should be
in order to get a particular foal color.
Neither heterozygous or homozygous genetics, nor coat color patterns come into
play with the Color Calulator. It is an entertaining, interactive way to
determine the odds of, say, getting a sorrel foal if you breed two bays.
The My APHA Plus Web portal is a totally unique innovation and has no rivals in
the stock horse world for the amount of information it delivers and its ease of
use. The subscription service debuts in March. Take a virtual tour of this
latest in subscription services by clicking on the APHA Plus
features tour banner.
Information as you have always wanted it will literally be at your fingertips.
