Welcome to the new and improved e-newsletter for APHA Show Managers and Secretaries
Our goal for 2007 is improved communication between APHA's Performance department and the show management of APHA-approved shows. We have already redesigned the Web Resource area within apha.com. Click here to go directly to the show management Web site, then bookmark the page. Quarterly (or more often if needed), we will be sending this e-newsletter to keep you informed of the latest news and information. Watch for updates and improvements to this section of the Web site in coming months!
Please let us know if you have any suggestions, questions or concerns. We are here to help and look forward to working with you. We hope you are enjoying a successful show season. Thank you for your continued support and hard work!

2007 Calendar Shift
Now is the time to check your show calendars for next year — the calendar shifts one week in 2007, thereby creating new show priority dates for APHA-approved shows. The APHA reserves show dates based on the calendar week, not upon the date. Be sure to check with the facilities where you plan to hold your 2007 shows to make sure that your dates are still reserved.
In an effort to assist you with planning for the 2007 show season, please keep the following in mind:
- All shows will be assigned new priority dates based upon the number of the calendar week. Example: If your show was approved on April 1-2, 2006, your show was held on week #14 on the APHA show calendar. In 2007, week #14 lands on April 7-8, which will now be your new show priority dates. (SC-090.H)
- All APHA regional clubs who have received approval from the Executive Committee to host shows on traditional holiday weekends on a permanent basis will continue to receive approval for those dates. (SC-090.J.5)
- Those shows required to move forward in the APHA show calendar, thereby creating difficulty in securing facilities, have the option of requesting to move their dates back one week.
- If the show that is requesting to move back one week is located within 250 highway miles of the show that now has priority on those dates as determined by the APHA show calendar, it will not be able to be approved unless all affected show managements agree to waive the mileage restriction. (SC-090.J.1)
- Effective for the 2007 calendar year only, we will accept show applications prior to the completion of your 2006 shows to assist you in securing your dates.
If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact Linda Knowles, Show Approval Coordinator, by phone at (817) 834-2742, ext. 245 or e-mail.

Emergency Show Assistance Hotline
Show committees are now able to reach an APHA representative on the weekends in case of emergency related to show management issues. Calls will be received beginning each week at 4:30 p.m. CST Friday through the end of the day on Sunday.
If you have an emergency, call (817) 487-6102. If you are directed to voicemail, leave a message stating your situation and a representative will return your call if it is deemed to be an emergency. For all other non-emergency situations, your call will be returned on the next business day.

Show Approval Reminders:
Here are a few things to remember when submitting your paperwork.
- Please use the most recent show application form supplied by the APHA or available online. Outdated versions do not contain all necessary requirements and we will be unable to accept them.
- Once a class list is submitted, the list of classes can only be amended up to 30 days prior to the show by written notification to the APHA. (SC-090.D)
- Please be sure to hire your judge(s) by written contract prior to listing them on the show approval application.
- If you are not planning to hold a show you held in previous years, please let us know immediately so that we can release the dates for other clubs. (SC-090.J.3)
- Please check your show listing in Paint Horse Journal and on the APHA Web site for accuracy.

Solid Paint-Bred/Breeding Stock Classes Required
Effective, January 1, 2006, all APHA-approved shows must offer the following Solid Paint-Bred/Breeding Stock classes:
- Six (6) open halter classes to include at least two (2) mare classes and at least two (2) gelding classes.
- Two (2) open performance classes.
|
Show Results Reminders
Here are a few things to remember when processing your final show results.
- Recording the number of entries in a class—Be sure to record all entries that exhibited in each class including disqualifications and no-scores. Even when all entries are disqualified by the judge(s), the entries must be entered in the roster and reported on the final show results. If a horse is disqualified, it is not to be placed, regardless of the number of horses in a class, but counts as an entry in the class when determining the total number of entries.
- Disqualifications due to wrong entry number—When an entry has shown with the wrong entry number and is therefore disqualified, the APHA needs to know the correct number of the entry exhibited.
- Please enter the correct entry number and horse on the results roster/edit/diskette.
- The judges should initial the corrections on their cards, however; if this is not possible, the show secretary should initial any changes related to wrong entry numbers along with a brief notation on the cards indicating the same. (e.g. DQ – wrong back #)
- It is also helpful to include a brief note of explanation along with your results alerting the APHA of these situations. This will prevent unnecessary delays in processing your show results.
If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact LeAnn Fast, Show Results Coordinator, by phone at (817) 834-2742, ext. 244 or e-mail.
